Our Bureau
Hyderabad, April 3
The Icrisat (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Coca-Cola Foundation have joined hands to take up strengthening of rural water resources in the country. The pilot project will be taken up in Dungarpur district in Rajasthan and Thirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The three organisations would collaborate for sustainable and equitable management of rural water resources to improve the livelihood of the poor and marginal farmers in these two districts. Announcing the partnership in a joint press conference here on Monday, Dr Barry Shapiro of Icrisat, said the idea was not just to transfer the relevant technologies. "We would like to strengthen the capacities of local communities. We believe in consortium approach, involving various stakeholders," he said.
