Chennai , April 4

Doulos, one of the world's largest floating bookshops and recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship, will arrive in Chennai on April 11, said a source.

The ship is coming from Salalah, Oman, and will be in the city till May 9. The ship will then visit Visakhapatnam where it will stay for 15 days. From Visakhapatnam the ship will sail to Phuket, Thailand, according to information available on Doulos Web site.

Doulos is owned and operated by Gute Bücher für Alle e.V. (Good Books for All), a charitable trust registered in Germany. The ship is registered in Valetta, Malta, and over 18 million visitors have been welcomed on board for tours, programmes and visits to the floating book fair.

With stops in over 500 ports of call, Doulos has gained a wealth of experience during visits to more than 100 countries over the past 27 years. The ship visits port cities throughout the world, supplying literature resources, encouraging inter-cultural understanding, training young people for effective life and service, promoting greater global awareness and providing practical aid, the Web site says.
