SER handling up

The South Eastern Railway (SER), a major freight-loading zonal railway, handled 85.86 million tonnes (mt) of originating freight traffic in 2005-06 as compared to 73.07 mt in 2004-05, thus posting 17.5 per cent growth, according to SER sources.

Itemwise breakups: Coal 19.28 mt (17.81 mt); raw materials for steel plants 25.05 mt (20.81 mt); finished steel 8 mt (6.81 mt); iron ore exports 6.49 mt ( 6.35 mt); cement 4.81 mt (4.23 mt); fertilisers 0.58 mt (0.32 mt) and others 21.10 mt (15.07 mt).
