Bangalore , April 4 Samsung Electronics on Tuesday said it would spend over $20 million to expand its India operations while its turnover was expected to grow 20 per cent to touch about Rs 7,560 crore in the current year. Samsung India deputy managing director, Mr R. Zutshi told newspersons after the launch of a new range of cameras and MP3 players, that the company has invested over $150 million in its operations so far. The company expects to grow 20 per cent this year compared with 30 per cent last year. The lower growth was due to the consolidation of various businesses. Mr Zutshi said one of the key drivers of growth would be its digital media business. The digital camcorder market size is about 2.5 lakh units per year, and Samsung expects a 10 per cent share this year. It expects a 10 per cent share in the MP3 player segment, where the market size is around 3 lakh units per year. He said Samsung has begun production of its slim TV at its factory near New Delhi. The price ranges between Rs 11,990 and Rs 69,990. "We plan to strengthen our flat television range this month by launching new sound-oriented models in the 21-inch and 29-inch screen size segments," Samsung India's director, sales, Mr Pradeep Tognatta said. Samsung India has also launched an MP3 player with a built-in digital camera priced at Rs 21,500. The MP3 player consists of a camera, MPEG-4 playback/photo viewer with 20 hours playback and an FM radio. Samsung has also launched a digital still camera with a built-in 15X zoom and a 3.5-inch TFT LCD panel priced Rs 54,990. The company also unveiled a DVD camcorder with features similar to a digital still camera, MP3 player, data storage, voice recorder and web cam functionality and priced at Rs 29,990. Another camcorder model is priced at Rs 36,990.
