The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on Tuesday urged the Government to take up special economic zone (SEZ) applications already considered by the first meeting of the Board of Approvals, according to the existing policies and rules.

The PHDCCI Secretary General, Mr Bibek Debroy, said that the prospective amendments of rules should apply to such matters, provided they comply with all the conditions of the existing SEZ rules, instead of changes in rules being applied retrospectively. The chamber has urged the Government to treat the non-conventional energy equipment (NCE) industry on par with IT electronic equipment industry. It said that as highly trained persons, mostly engineers, are required for this manufacturing operation of precision equipment, they would not be willing to go to the rural areas.
