Letters Bank strike
This refers to, "SBI strike: Govt. not to relent," (Business Line, April 5): It makes for an odd bit of news to that learn that the Government, after all, cares for their larger interests. Nonetheless, what is perplexing is why such things happen, further, why they are repeated time and again, despite there being on the statute book enactments to ensure continued essential services, without interruption. Is it not the duty of the Government to halt once for all such a development? Especially, to try its best and avoid an irreparable loss to the exchequer, that too of a significant regard, which, in the ultimate analysis, comes to be borne only by the taxpaying public. V. Swaminathan Bangalore
