Low volume at Coonoor tea sales again

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , April 5

The volume offered at the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association continues to be low this week as only 8.14 lakh kg have been catalogued for sale on Thursday and Friday.

Of this, as much as 5.91 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and the remaining 2.23 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. As much as 7.5 lakh kg belong to the CTC variety and the balance of 64,000 kg belong to the orthodox variety.

Volume of 8.14 lakh kg is the fifth lowest on offer so far this year. In the corresponding sale last year, 10.53 lakh kg were offered.

Still, the volume is 80,000 kg more than the year's lowest offered last week.

Buyers' interest

Buyers from the BJP-ruled States of M.P., Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttaranchal and Jargand, which entered the VAT regime on April 1, have shown interest to participate actively this week. Auctioneers said exporters to Iraq would continue to be active as they were under an obligation to buy up to 20 mkg from various centres in the coming weeks.
