Performance States - Karnataka BHEL's Bangalore units post Rs 1,150 cr turnover Our Bureau,
Bangalore , April 5 The Bangalore units of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) have recorded a turnover of Rs 1,150 crore for the year fiscal 2005-06, a 41 per cent growth over the previous year. They also recorded a 45 per cent increase in the profit before tax of Rs 288 crore, according to the provisional figures released by the company. The public sector Navaratna hopes to double its turnover by 2011-12 which is expected to come from consolidating its position and diversification into emerging areas such as traction electronics, solar photovoltaic system both terrestrial and space applications and other areas. BHEL, Bangalore has also identified more areas such as new metering solutions for efficient power distribution and billing, bulk material handling, optimising opportunities opening up in the steel sector and various types of insulators leveraging its technological strength. The company had already created advanced facilities during the year. The three units electronics division, industrial systems group and electroporcelains division are drawing up plans for creating modern facilities for manufacture and testing of these products and systems, the release said.
Major milestones
Among the major milestones achieved by the Bangalore units during the fiscal 2006 were successful commissioning of turbine generator controls for the first 5000 MW set at Tarapur Nuclear Plant, gaining a strong foothold in the diversified area of coal and ash handling plants, production and installation of solar panel and satellite batteries power communication satellite Insat 4A. BHEL set up solar power plants in Sunderbans in West Bengal, which had no modern lighting system for its people, commissioning of largest solar-diesel hybrid power plant at Lakshadweep Islands and successful commissioning of all six units at Alamatti Hydro Electric project in Karnataka with advanced maxDNA technology.
