Rourkela Steel posts record output

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) belonging to Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) registered its highest ever hot metal production of 1.78 million tonnes, crude steel production of 1.66 million tonnes and 1.62 million tonnes of saleable steel in 2005-06. According to an official press release, the plant recorded the highest ever despatches too. Production of spiral weld pipes grew by 76 per cent. "Significant growths were achieved during 2004-05 in the production of our niche items such as plates (13 per cent), hot rolled plates (20 per cent), galvanised sheets (20 per cent) and cold rolled coils (10 per cent)," the release stated.
