Oilseeds & Edible Oil Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports No stoppage of crude palm oil to India, says Indonesia Our Bureau
Mumbai, April 6 Indonesia has no intention of stopping crude palm oil (CPO) export to India. This has been officially stated by a senior government official in Jakarta in a letter to the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA). Earlier, based on a press report stating that Indonesia was considering halting crude palm oil exports to India because of high rate of customs duty at the destination, the SEA had taken up the matter with the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association seeking clarification.
Main buyer
"India is the main destination of crude palm oil exports from Indonesia and therefore, we have to maintain CPO exports and increase trade co-operation with India," the Director of Agriculture Exports in the Indonesian Ministry of Trade said. Indeed, SEA's stand has been that high rates of duty on vegetable oils imported into India are not intended to discourage imports, but to protect the interests of domestic oilseed growers. According to Mr B.V. Mehta, Executive Director of SEA, the official clarification from the origin will help put an end to unnecessary speculation in the market.
