Global firms to participate

Fair assumption
The exhibition is expected to generate $200 million (Rs 890 crore) of business.
It will be a five-day affair at the Chennai Trade Centre

Chennai , April 6

Around 90 participants will take part in ACMEE 2006, an international industrial exhibition organised by the Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association (AIEMA), according to Mr R. Selvaraj, Chairman, ACMEE 2006.

The participants include global sourcing leaders such as Cummins (US), Scania (Sweden), and Eaton (US), he told the press.

Titled `An opportunity for growth', the exhibition will focus on automobile and allied services, computers and peripherals, machinery and machine tools, electricals and equipment, and electronics and controls.

Mr K.S. Jeyaraman, convenor of the event, said the exhibition is expected to generate $200 million (Rs 890 crore) of business. The five-day exhibition is slated to begin on April 9 at the Chennai Trade Centre. Some members of AIEMA raised a concern that the Chennai Trade Centre is inadequate for an event such as this. Mr Dilip Khumbat, Chairman, AIEMA Technology Centre, said that heavy equipment manufacturers are hesitant to participate since the hangars are not up to international standards.

The event managers had to restrict the participation for want of sufficient space, and the economic infeasibility of setting up temporary hangars.

He said the association had made a representation to the Government to set up a centre that meets international standards.
