Credit plan ready for Thiruvananthapuram dist

Commercial banks to disburse Rs 2,187 crore


Cooperative institutions and public sector units such as KFC are expected to chip in.

Thiruvananthapuram , April 6

Commercial banks propose to give away Rs 2,187 crore in priority sector in Thiruvananthapuram district during 2006-07 as per the credit plan finalised under the auspices of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Lead Bankers to the district.

The District Consultative Committee met here on Wednesday to finalise the plan. Mr N.K. Muraleedharan, Assistant General Manager, IOB, handed over a copy to Mr Manoharan Pillai, Lead District Officer at the Regional Office of the Reserve Bank of India.

Out of the targeted figure, Rs 793.74 crore is earmarked for the agriculture sector, Rs 177.50 crore for the non-farm sector and Rs 1,215.52 crore for the services sector. There is an increase in outlay of Rs 411.59 crore (23 per cent) over that of the last year. Cooperative institutions and public sector units such as the Kerala Financial Corporation are expected to chip in with their efforts in the exercise.

Priority credit disbursements

Meanwhile, priority credit disbursements by banks in the district during the first nine months of fiscal 2005-06 have crossed Rs 2,203 crore against a target of Rs 1,775.17 crore.

The services sector saw Rs 1,505.51 crore being disbursed, while the agriculture sector accounted for Rs 656.38 crore, said Mr Abraham Shaji John, Lead District Manager. The industries sector saw Rs 43.72 crore being disbursed during the period. The credit-deposit ratio for the district stood at 77 per cent, Mr John said.

Around 1,900 families spread over 12 blocks in the district benefited from credit extended as part of the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana scheme.

More than 2,600 applications were accorded sanction under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana scheme. The Bhavanasree programme under the Kudumbasree Mission saw more than 2,100 proposals being sanctioned.

Under the self-help-group financing scheme, 6,469 groups were extended assistance. More than 1.90 lakh farmers received Rs 314 crore under the Kisan Credit Card scheme.
