Salem Steel gets new ED

Coimbatore, April 6

Mr P.M. Balasubramanian is the new Executive Director of the public sector Salem Steel Plant. The 58-year-old Mr Balasubramanian, who was earlier the General Manager (operations in-charge) at the SSP, took charge as the ED effective from April 1, 2006, according to a press release from the SSP. A mechanical engineering graduate from Regional Engineering College, Warangal, Mr Balasubramanian joined the SAIL's Bokaro steel plant in 1972 before he moved over to Salem Steel Plant in 1978 and he had worked in various sections of the Cold-Rolling Mill operations and held positions, including the General Manager (Works). An awardee of the SAIL's prestigious Jawahar award for `distinguished executive', he was also trained in cryogenic technology at Linde, Germany, and in stainless steel processing at the works of Ugine, France, the SSP communication has said.
