Torrent launches two diabetes drugs

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, April 6

Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd has announced the launch of two new drugs, one for treatment of neuropathic pain and another drug that helps in reducing insulin resistance in Type-2 diabetes.

The new drugs — Pregeb (Pregabalin) and Piopod (Pioglitazone) — command a $2 billion and $1.5 billion share in the global market. Pregabalin is the latest therapy available for the treatment of neuropathic pain (which feels like pins being thrust in fingertips, a condition common in diabetes patients), while Pioglitazone is a trusted name in reducing insulin resistance in Type-2 diabetes, Torrent said in a release on Thursday. The two drugs have been launched by Azuca, Torrent's recently launched diabetes division.
