Visa ties up with Tourism Ministry

New Delhi , April 6

Visa International has tied up with the Ministry of Tourism to promote India as a preferred international tourist destination. "Visa has been a great supporter of tourism globally. Since we are a payment company, the tie-up offers the traveller end-to-end packages," said Mr Santanu Mukherjee, Country Manager, South Asia, Visa International.

The packages, available on the incredibleindia.com site of the Ministry of Tourism, offer India-specific tours that can be customised to suit travellers' needs. The packages are now available only to international travellers through six travel agents. The packages target affluent customers with a high propensity to travel, officials said.

Visa officials indicated that the tie-up provided a win-win situation for India and the company. "During 2005, the spend by in-bound international tourists on Visa cards stood at Rs 5,400 crore, up from Rs 4,100 crore during the previous year," a senior official said. During 2004, the top-five Visa-spending countries of origin were the US, UK, France, Australia and the United Arab Emirates, accounting for 64 per cent of total Visa spend in India by international cardholders.
