Silver improves; gold steady

Mumbai , April 7

Silver prices continued to rule higher on the local bullion market on Friday on sustained local buying following strong overseas markets.

Silver (.999 fineness) was up Rs 225 at Rs 18,095 per kg over previous close. Pure gold prices were up Rs 5 at Rs 8,715 per 10 gm.

Standard mint prices were steady at Rs 8,665 per 10 gm.

Chennai: Bar silver: Rs 18,300; retail silver (per gm): Rs 19.55; Standard gold: Rs 8,740; retail ornament gold (22 carat per gm): Rs 809.

Kolkata: Silver ready: Rs 17,600; Gold ready: Rs 8,810.
