Mankind Pharma is setting up a new manufacturing plant according to USFDA standards in Poanta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh.

Talking to presspersons, Mr R.C. Juneja, Managing Director, Mankind Pharma, said this would be spread over 12 acres and would become fully operational by July.

The new facility would have a production capacity of 30 million ampoules and 30 million vials on a single-shift basis. The investment that would be Rs 30 crore, he said. He said the company is also setting up a modern research and development facility in the NCR (National Capital Region) in Gurgaon.

The land has been acquired and is expected to be operational by 2007. This facility would have the capabilities in the areas of formulations development, new drug delivery systems, bio equivalence studies, contract research and new drug discovery.

Mr Juneja said this would also set the ground for the company to enter into the export market, and the initial target would span the semi-regulated markets of South East Asia, South Africa and former CIS countries. He said the company is planning to invest Rs 70crore over the next two years to support the expansion plans. Commenting on the financials, Mr Juneja said the company has recorded a turnover of Rs 350 crore for the fiscal ended March 2006 against Rs 218 crore turnover registered for the fiscal ended March 2005. He said the estimated target for the current year is Rs 500 crore. He said the company was planning to achieve a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore by 2010. He said the company is also planning to increase its headcount from the present 2,600 to 4,000 by 2010.

Mr Juneja said the Maharashtra region contributed to about Rs 35 crore to the total turnover for the fiscal ended March 2006 and was targeting Rs 50 crore for the current year.
