Infrastructure States - Other States Goa to strengthen infrastructure Ambar Singh Roy
Projects on anvil There were plans to set up an international convention. EoIs for hydel projects would be sought in the days ahead
Cansolin (Goa) , April 7 The Government of Goa has decided to facilitate the development of infrastructure in the State in public private partnership (PPP) mode. Infrastructure such as hydel projects, a North-South expressway, a cruise terminal and an international convention center have already been identified towards this end. Participation of private partners would be sought for implementation of these projects on BOOT (build operate own transfer) basis. Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of the Global Steel 2006 seminar being organised here by Steel RX, Mr J.P. Singh, Chief Secretary of Goa, said: "a slew of infrastructure projects" would soon see the light of the day in PPP mode. These include six hydel projects that would together have a capacity to generate about 70 MW of power. The state government would soon appoint a consultant for the purpose. Mr Singh said there were plans to set up an international convention here. "We have plans to set up an international convention centre here that will be the largest of its kind in Asia. We have already appointed Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services as consultants for the proposed project", he said. According to him, expressions of interest in respect of the hydel projects would be sought in the days ahead even as efforts were being made to complete, as soon as possible, an environmental impact study with regard to the proposed cruise terminal. Mr Singh, however, declined to hazard a guess on how much of investment would be required to implement the proposed projects. The investment would be generated by the private partner, who would also have to bear the commercial risks associated with the projects, he said.
