Mumbai, April 7
Mumbai will host ChemSpec India for the second consecutive year in 2007. The first exhibition of ChemSpec India was held in Hyderabad last year. Meanwhile, over 300 exhibitors, including foreign players from Germany, Switzerland, the US, Korea and China, participated in ChemSpec India 2006 that recently concluded here. The participants included speciality chemical companies such as BASF India, Colour-Chem Ltd (Clariant), United Phosphorus, Solaris Chemtech and also first time participants such as BOC India Ltd and the UK-based Fluorochem and Apollo Scientific Ltd. The Indian chemical industry accounts for 14 per cent of the total manufacturing output and about 13 per cent of the country's total exports, according to data on the Web site of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers. The industry produces a large number of organic and inorganic chemicals as well as active pharmaceutical ingredients, dyes, agrochemicals, additives and a host of other products that cater to both the domestic market as well as international clientele in the US, Europe and other Asian regions.
