MR SHEKHAR BAJAJ

Pune April 7

, The Rs 850-crore Bajaj Electricals Ltd, on Friday inaugurated its new modern fabrication of high mast and octagonal poles plant at Ranjangaon near Pune.

This is the second unit being set up at Ranjangaon, the first one was set up in 2001.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Shekhar Bajaj, Chairman and ManagingDirector, Bajaj Electricals, said the new facility with an investment of Rs 15 crore, can manufacture high mast from 12 m to 60 m and octagonal posts of height of 12 m. The high mast is used at most of the ports and airports while the octagonal posts are used for street lighting.

New factory

He said the new factory is spread over 20,000 sq m at MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and would do the fabrication of high mast and octagonal poles which would be transferred to the main plant for galvanisation.

Mr Anant Bajaj, has been appointed as the Executive Director of the two divisions. He said the 60 m high mast has been set up at the Chennai Port Trust and the new orders include setting up of high masts at Gwalior stadium and also would be used for the signages for petrol pumps and highways/expressways such as the Western and Eastern Express Highway of Mumbai and transmission line tower business.

Targets

He said the company has recorded a turnover of Rs 148 crore from the two units of Ranjangaon for the fiscal ended March 2006 and is targeting a turnover of Rs 200 crore for the current fiscal. Mr Shekhar talking about the first plant said it currently has a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes of galvanisation and this would be increased to 50,000 tonnes.

This would be the third facility, which would again be near the premises and would be investing Rs 30 crores for this venture. He pointed out that out of the 30,000 tonnes capacity only about 4,000 tonnes was being used for the manufacture of high masts and this had made the company foray into new segments such as the transmission line towers, lattice structures for clients such as the power grid.

Orders for signages have been received by the company, he added.
