Kanara chamber plea on SBI stir

Our Bureau

Mangalore, April 7

The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, to resolve the problems being faced by small-scale industries due to the indefinite strike by the employees of State Bank of India (SBI).

In a letter to the Union Finance Minister, copies of which were released to the press here on Friday, Mr A. Srinivasa Rao, KCCI President, said the indefinite strike by SBI employees had crippled the business activities of small-scale industries. This was more so because of the restriction imposed on opening and operating multiple current accounts by the borrowers. Many of the small-scale units were unable to make remittances for procuring raw materials, pay salaries to their employees and meet their working capital needs. The borrowers were paying exorbitant interest and other charges to the bank.
