Move to encourage BPOs hailed

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 7

Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) today welcomed the Annual Supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy saying the procedural changes made to encourage Business Process Outsourcing and IT-enabled services to avail themselves of refund of central sales tax (CST), would bring down the transaction cost.

"We welcome the procedural changes that have been effected in order to avail themselves of refund of CST to BPOs and IT-enabled Services (ITES), which was denied to them earlier. This we hope will bring down the transaction cost," Mr Nalin Kohli, Chairman of ESC, said in a statement here.

Lauding the emphasis on services exports, Mr Kohli said that the Government should put in place a scheme similar to Vishesh Krishi and Gram Udyog Yojana for software exporters and the ITES to set up their stations in rural and semi-urban areas.
