Kolkata , April 7

The $5.2-billion Emirates Airline has urged the Union Government to allow it to increase its number of flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Dubai.

This was announced by Mr Ghaith Al Ghaith, Executive Vice-President, Commercial Operations Worldwide of Emirates, at a press conference in the city on Friday.

The top brass of Emirates was in Kolkata to celebrate the beginning of direct non-stop services of Emirates between Dubai and Kolkata. This is the seventh Indian destination for Emirates after Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

The leading global airliner has also planned to begin operations in Bangalore. According to Mr Ghaith, Emirates would start flying from Bangalore from October 29. It would start off with eight flights from that city.

"We are constantly in touch with the Indian government. We have requested the government to allow us increase our flights from Delhi and Mumbai," Mr Ghaith told presspersons.
