Good demand for dust tea

There was good general demand for the 8,69,000 kg of dust tea on sale at the Kochi tea auction.

Good liquoring CTC varieties remained generally firm to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 3, while medium and below medium bolder grades remained barely steady and eased by Rs 1-2.

Orthodox dust varieties remained steady.

Best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 62 and Rs 75, while medium CTC fetched Rs 54-60 and below medium realised Rs 45-48.

High-grown BOPD varieties were quoted between Rs 85-116, medium BOPD at Rs 45 and secondaries ranged between Rs 33-35.

Fair demand for leaf tea

There was fair general demand for the 2,49,000 kg of leaf tea on offer. CTC smaller brokens remained steady to dearer. Other CTC varieties tended to remain easy.

Medium orthodox brokens and tannings remained barely steady. Whole leaf grades were quoted lower.

Exporters remained selective on orthodox leaf grades. CTC leaf witnessed less demand from exporters, while CTC dust grade had good general demand.

Best Nilgiri leaf was quoted between Rs 65-70, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 44-48, best CTC leaf remained between Rs 43-47 and medium CTC leaf Rs 38-41.

Top prices in the dust varieties were realised by Kodanad BOPD at Rs 116, Pasuparai FD at Rs 108, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 102 and Parkside BOPD at Rs 90.

In the leaf category, Havukkal BOPF fetched the highest price at Rs 104, followed by Havukkal Op at Rs 90 and Tigerhill BOPF with Rs 89.
