Community-based banking

This is with reference to, "Is it the end of the road for community-based banking?" (Business Line, April 6): The banks will try to play safe, reduce the cost of servicing and enhance profit. It is necessary that the Government and banks work together. Appropriate revision to rules and regulations should be made so that the unorganised sector gets credit without difficulty. It will be seen that the NPA is negligible in this sector compared to others. The Government should insist that banks meet their lending quota to the sector.
