SC Rly earnings increase Rs 610 cr

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 10

The South Central Railway (SCR) recorded earnings of Rs 4,814 crore during 2005-2006 against Rs 4,203.76 crore in the previous fiscal, a growth of Rs 610.24 crore.

Earnings from freight traffic were Rs 3,450 crore for 2005-2006 against Rs 2,884.80 crore in 2004-2005, an increase of Rs 565.20 crore.

The passenger traffic earnings were Rs 1,234 crore against Rs 1,192.62 crore and the coaching traffic was Rs 72 crore compared with Rs 61.43 crore.

According to a statement from SCR, the all-round increase in earnings is all the more creditable on account of the fact that the zone had faced a tough situation due to cyclonic weather and its after-effects between July and December last.

Freight loading

SCR registered a record originated freight loading of 57.51 million tonnes (mt) in 2005-2006 against 51 mt in the previous year, a growth of 13 per cent. The growth rate was higher than that of the Indian Railways, which grew by 11 per cent.

Coal formed the bulk of the originating freight traffic with 24.2 mt (21.95 mt). Cement loading was put at 17.59 mt (15.29 mt) and iron ore loading, which stood at 2.65 mt and fertiliser 2.48 mt. In addition, the foodgrain loading had gone up to 4.37 mt (3.82 mt).

This was the highest ever loading of coal and cement since the inception of the zone, the SCR statement said.

The zone could achieve the highest ever freight loading despite a loss of about 4.5 mt of loading due to cyclonic conditions during July-December 2005.
