New Delhi, April 10

The Railway Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad, today asked the Railways officials to work towards achieving Rs 20,000-crore fund balance over the next few years against the current amount of Rs 11,000 crore. Addressing a conference here, Mr Prasad said that he is working on a proposal to ensure that all unmanned level crossings are attended to. Earlier, Mr JP Batra, Chairman, Railway Board called for focus on safety. "Though the number of collisions during the year reduced to nine from 13 a year before and derailments reduced to 131 as against 138, the number of manned level crossing accidents went up from five (in the year before) to 10 and cases of fire went up from 10 to 15," he said at the inauguration of Railway Week, which is held to commemorate the inaugural run of first train in India.
