New Delhi, April 10

State-owned equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 1,200-crore order from Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd (GIPCL) for setting up two units of 125 MW each. GIPCL has placed the order for setting up the two units (units III and IV) for its Surat Lignite Thermal Power Station Expansion Project, BHEL said in a statement. The units would be commissioned in 33 and 37 months respectively, it said. The power plant would be equipped with "eco-friendly" Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CBFC) boilers, designed to utilise low-grade fuel such as lignite, high ash coal and washery rejects. BHEL's scope of work includes the manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of steam turbine generators, boilers, associated auxillaries, balance of plant and electricals, besides controls and instrumentation (C&I), electrostatic precipitators and switchyard including civil works.

While steam turbine generators and boilers would be manufactured at company's Hyderabad and Trichy plants respectively, the C&I system would be supplied by BHEL's electronics division in Bangalore. This order comes close on the heels of orders already received during the year for lignite-based thermal power stations with CBFC Boilers for 2x250 MW sets at Nevyeli and 2x125 MW sets at Barasingsar, both from NLC and 125 MW set at Giral from Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd, it added.
