Coimbatore , April 11

With the construction industry witnessing a boom in the Coimbatore region, the third edition of Build Expo from January 25 to 29, 2007 at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex here, is expected to generate business enquiries worth Rs 80-100 crore.

The expo is being jointly organised by the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), Builders' Association of India (BAI) and the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia).

Mr D. Balasundaram, Chairman, and Mr V. Gopalakrishnan, Secretary of Build Expo 2007, said they expected around 300 stalls to be booked at the exhibition venue and there would be open area outside for display of construction machinery. The pre-launch promo done in cities such as Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai has drawn positive response.

The Building Material and Trade Promotion Council and the Ministry of Urban Development have voiced their support to the expo and the organisers were also negotiating with HUDCO for its support. The organisers are also keen to get overseas participation in the expo and countries like Germany, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia and Korea have shown interest in the fair.

Some of the focus areas of the expo are bringing in quality products and providing interface for business association between national and global players, providing knowledge sharing programme with focus on disaster resistance structures and technologies and bringing in government organisations that have a big stake in the construction sector.

Mr Gopalakrishnan said the last edition of Build Expo in 2005 generated business enquiries worth Rs 50 crore and he expected the expo in 2007 to generate business worth about Rs 80-100 crore.

Mr G. Ramamoorthy, Chairman, BAI, Coimbatore, said Coimbatore and Erode districts have been witnessing a construction boom for the past two years with the construction in commercial/industrial and residential sectors valued at Rs 2,200-2,500 crore. The expansion being witnessed in the educational sector has also contributed to this positive trend.
