`Chikun Gunya' outbreak in AP

Hyderabad, April 11

The Andhra Pradesh Health Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Tuesday confirmed the incidence of Chikun Gunya outbreak in a few districts of the State, including Hyderabad, and promised that the Government has initiated steps to curb it. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr Rosaiah said that out of the blood samples collected in Anantapur, Kurnool, Chittoor, Nalgonda, Prakasham, Guntur and Hyderabad by the National Institute of Virology, Pune, 139 tested positive for Chikun Gunya, six of them for dengue and 15 for both. The Health Minister said that 27,754 cases of Chikun Gunya were reported from various districts in the State but thus far only two deaths were confirmed out of three reported.
