Check black-money

Prices of gold, silver and property have been rising abnormally for some time now as investmets are made in these assets. Unaccounted money in large-scale is flowing into these assets and must be checked.

All sale-purchase exceeding, say, Rs 20,000 must be through banks. In case of cash payments, a currency tax at 30 per cent may be considered. All expenses exceeding Rs 1000 must be through cheques/drafts, including payments for essential services such as water, telephone, electricity and municipal taxes. Drafts/pay-orders/traveller-cheques must carry names and address/account-numbers of purchasers to curb their `benami' use.
