Gems & jewellery exports up 6.32%

The country's exports of gems and jewellery grew by 6.32 per cent to $16,669.11 million (Rs 73,304.29 crore) last fiscal compared with $15,678.14 million (Rs 70,245.95 crore) in the previous year. However, there has been some growth in non-traditional markets. The growth in the sector was driven by cut and polished diamonds. Exports of cut and polished diamonds increased by 6.07 per cent to $11,860.49 million ($11,181.56 million). Gold jewellery exports grew 1.28 per cent to $3,861.57 million ($3,812.88 million). Imports of rough diamonds stood at $8,708.98 million. During the year, imports of gem and jewellery grew by 11.79 per cent to $13,013.11 million ($11640.21 million).
