SUCCOUR FROM EU: Workers peeling shrimps at an unit in Kochi. The European Union has emerged as the biggest importer of Indian shrimps after the US slapped anti-dumping duty on imports from New Delhi.

Last fiscal, the European Union contributed nearly 30 per cent of the total export turnover of Rs 6,500 crore. On the other hand, domestic demand for fish and fishery products is expected to rise by another 50 million tonnes by 2015 from the current 133 million tonnes.
