Hero Honda: Stalemate continues

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 13

An early solution to the labour dispute at Hero Honda seemed distant on the fourth day of the strike even as the company released a statement "extending full support to the contractors, contract workers and local administration to amicably resolve the issues raised by the 2000 contract workers". The company also clarified that this was a "flash strike and there is no formal workers union at its Gurgaon plant. Also, the permanent workers are not supporting this strike."

Hero Honda added that as part of its efforts to resolve this issue at the earliest, an offer was made to the representatives of the striking workers that took into consideration most of their demands.

To arrive at an early resolution, the Additional Labour Commissioner of Haryana has been conducting a series of meetings with all parties concerned. "While all other parties concerned have been co-operating, it is disappointing to note that representatives of the striking contract workers did not turn up for the meeting today," Hero Honda said.
