L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , April 14

Krishna Industrial Corporation Ltd (KIC) has been credited by the `Foundation for Excellence in Business Practice, Geneva' for its excellence in business performance.

Krishna Industrial Corporation (KIC) is engaged in the production of super phosphate and sulphuric acid, carbon dioxide gas, acetic acid and bio-fertiliser. The company forayed into IT by establishing a product development division - Kasbah Systems Software in Coimbatore. Its chemical (engaged in acetic acid production) and fertiliser divisions are located at Nidadavole in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. It has two carbon dioxide factories - at Vuyyuru in Krishna District and at Jangareddigudem in West Godavari district.

The Managing Director of the company, Dr S.R.K. Prasad said KIC was engaged in bottling and selling of carbon dioxide. `We supply this high pressure gas to the pharmaceutical units and the foundries. Soda gas (used in beverages) is a huge market. We enjoy a 60 per cent market share in the State of Andhra Pradesh. We are in the process of expanding our capacity from 400 tonnes/month to 700 t/mth. A liquid carbon dioxide plant is being set up on an estimated investment of Rs. 2 crore. It will commence production within the next six months,' he said and added that these efforts were aimed at taking the share to 90 per cent.

On bio fertiliser, he said the division clocked a profit of Rs 50 lakh annually out of a turnover of Rs1 crore. "We are contemplating to export the `Krisco' brand bio fertiliser to Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam." On the IT division, he said that he proposed to hive it off as a separate entity by September.
