Compressors import: DGFT clarifies

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi, April 14

The Commerce Ministry has said that the customs department may allow import of compressors filled with non-ozone depleting substances. It has been made clear that registration requirement would not be applicable for such imports. This clarification of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has come after consultations with the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The DGFT had received representations from various quarters seeking clarification regarding import of compressors filled with non-ozone depleting substances.

After examining the matter, the Ministry had clarified that importers have to be registered with the competent authority for import of compressors using ozone-depleting substances. Registration requirement will, however, not be applicable for importing compressors using non-ozone depleting substances or compressors that do not contain any refrigerant gas.
