Chennai , April 16

About 90 per cent of the students who pass out of engineering colleges are not employable, as they do not have the requisite soft skills, according to Mr R. Kannan, CEO of the Singapore-based Careersuniversal Pte Ltd.

He said even students who had good academic records had difficulty in speaking English, taking part in group discussions and positioning themselves. Only students who pass out colleges that had a stringent entry filter found jobs easily, he said.

Careersuniversal has launched `CareerSmart' a CD cum Web-enabled programme, which is designed to help students and first time job seekers. This programme has an aptitude test, English proficiency test, it helps build resumes, is a group discussion coach and an interview manager. The feedback will provide developmental suggestions on areas that require improvement.

Finally, the candidates are given a database of placement consultants across the country to which they can send their resumes. The CareerSmart CD is priced at Rs 499.
