K.K. Mustafah

REAPING REWARD: A farmer tending to his sunflower crop near Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu. The edible oil market in the country has been thrown into chaos with the Centre issuing a notification on import of products from genetically modified organisms. Sunflower oil has been one of the beneficiaries with the prices rising to Rs 420 for a 10-kg tin, up Rs 15 since the beginning of this month. Sunflower seed production this season (July 2005-June 2006) is expected to increase to 16.2 lakh tonnes from 15.8 lakh tonnes last season.
