The Hindu Business Line : Yakult Danone plans milk manufacturing facility in Haryana

Yakult Danone India Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Japan's Yakult Honsha and Group Danone of France, is setting up a manufacturing facility in Haryana to produce fermented milk in the country.

The company has been allotted eight acres of land in the Food Park of Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation.

The facility will have an installed capacity of one million bottles per day, which will be achieved in four phases. The group will start rolling out its products from 2007.

Yakult Honsha, which deals in probiotics bacteria (used in dietary supplements), had entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Group Danone, a dairy company in November for its foray into India.

Yakult Honsha, which has 28 plants across the world, is focusing on overseas markets with an aim to bring safe, probiotic products to the consumers. Recent markets for the company include China, Malaysia, New Zealand and Austria.

Mr Kiyoshi Oike, Managing Director, Yakult Danone India Private Ltd, said, "Our new facility is a strategic move towards globalisation, necessitated by our growing customer base in Asia and the relevance of this product for the health of Indians. Rai, Haryana is an ideal location for this venture as it provides excellent infrastructure facilities, access to the big market of Delhi, and the strong support of the Government of Haryana."
