Huawei is the main supplier to China Telecom and China Unicom, the two largest public nationwide network operators in China.
Beijing , April 17 The China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) has urged the Indian Government to review security issues raised on the $2.5-billion Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Corp. A senior CCPIT official said on Monday that the Union Government should try to resolve the issues quickly and allow the telecom equipment major to set up its manufacturing unit in India. The Chinese company's proposal to set up a handset manufacturing unit is pending with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for the past two years. According to Mr Wang Jinzhen, Vice Secretary General, CCPIT, "The Indian Government is already aware of the situation. Huawei is a private company. Though owned by Government it is fully managed and run by a private entrepreneurs." The issue should be sorted out quickly to continue better economic ties between the two countries he said adding that a speedy resolution will help in improving business in the sector. The core strengths of the Chinese company is in transmission, switching, and access. Strong in telecom research and development, the Shenzen-based company has 15,000 software engineers all over the world including India.
Huawei Technologies India employees over 500 software engineers including 178 Chinese. Huawei's customers include large enterprises, service providers, local postal, telephone, and telegraph authorities, and nationwide carriers in more than 30 countries and regions. Huawei is the main supplier to China Telecom and China Unicom, the two largest public nationwide network operators in China.
Huawei, which has a major software development centre in Bangalore, has received over 8,000 patents with one-tenth of them registered in 20 countries outside China, mainly in the US and Europe.
