New Delhi, April 17

The President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, will inaugurate the two-day South Asia Conference on Renewable Energy 2006 that opens here on Tuesday. The conference, to be organised by Assocham and the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES), will explore sources of non-conventional in areas such as solar, hydro, wind power, solar thermal among others.

Apart from India, the countries' participating include Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Maldives.

Mr Vilas Muttemwar, Minister for Non-Conventional Energy Sources, will deliver a special address at the conference. Other top policy makers will represent the Government, while the industry will see representation from some of the key players in the sector.
