Cash payments will cover direct and incidental expenses

New Delhi , Apr 17

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co today launched `Cancer Care', a comprehensive health insurance scheme that would cover a cancer patient's expenses starting from diagnosis to treatment.

The product would be sold to healthy individuals for a cover ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

Under the plan, ICIC Prudential would make cash payments to cover direct and incidental expenses associated with cancer treatment; there is virtually no burden on the patient.

If cancer is detected at an advanced stage, premium payment by the policyholder is waived, as the person will not be in a position to work.

The premium for cancer coverage is higher for women as they are more prone to the disease than men.

A 30-year old man will have to pay about Rs 275 a month (Rs 3,310 a year) for Rs 10 lakh cover up to the age of 65, while a woman will pay Rs 465 a month (Rs 5,580 a year).
