Rupee gains on dollar inflows

Our Bureau

Mumbai, April 17

The rupee gained against the greenback on Monday on the back of dollar inflows into the market. The domestic currency opened at 45.09 and touched an intra-day high of 45.06. It then dipped to end the day at 45.12, up from the previous close of 45.18/20. Dealers said that the rupee moved up aided by positive sentiment in the stock market. "There was robust dollar supply in the market. However, there was all-round corporate and inter-bank buying that caused the rupee to trim the gains made earlier in the day," said a dealer at a private bank. Dealers said that the rupee might also gain against the dollar in tandem with other major currencies if the central bank does not intervene in the market. In the forward premia market, the six-month ended at 1.47 (1.28) and the 12-month at 1.44 per cent (1.34).
