Manipal Health plans major expansion

Manipal Health Systems (MHS), part of the Manipal Group, has embarked on a major expansion plan that includes both organic and inorganic growth.

Among the Group's major initiatives are setting up of a retail chain of pharmacies and diagnostic centres, adding more beds in the existing facilities, and setting up hospitals in Mumbai and Delhi.

Announcing this today, Dr Ranjan Pai, CEO, Manipal Education and Medical Group, said that the Group is immediately investing about Rs 150 crore for the same and about Rs 800 crore in the next five years.

The Group is eyeing a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore at the end of five years, he added.

MHS recently acquired the Bangalore Children's Hospital, now renamed Manipal Super Speciality Hospital, for about Rs 30 crore; it is adding 200 new beds at the Airport Road hospital in the city and will be spending about Rs 60 crore for purchase of hi-tech equipment for the hospitals.
