Silver rises sharply; gold improves

Mumbai , April 19

Silver prices rose sharply on some local buying interest, while gold continued to move upward on the local bullion market on Wednesday in line with strong global advices.

Silver (.999 fineness) was up Rs 1,195 at Rs 21,835 per kg over previous close. Pure gold prices were up Rs 125 at Rs 9,270 per 10 gm. Standard mint prices were up Rs 115 at Rs 9,215 per 10 gm.

Chennai: Bar silver: Rs 21,360; retail silver (per gm): Rs 22.85; Standard gold: Rs 9,310; retail ornament gold (22 carat per gm): Rs 862.
