Wind energy cos upbeat on growth

The wind energy sector is confident of sustaining the over 40 per cent growth in capacity addition that it recorded in 2005-06 during this fiscal as well. "We are confident of sustaining the growth rate of last year," the Chairman, Indian Wind Energy Association (InWEA), Mr Anil S. Kane, said here today. The year 2005-06 was a "record-breaking" period for the wind energy sector, with capacity addition rising 43 per cent from 1,111 MW in 2004-05 to 1,702 MW worth of new wind energy capacity added in 2005-06. The increase in capacity addition propelled the total installed wind energy capacity in the country to over 5,300 MW till March 2006.
