Industry & Economy - Climate & Weather Pre-monsoon heating phase set to begin Vinson Kurian
Thiruvananthapuram , April 19 Hotter climes will switch themselves on first in Northwest India as early as from Thursday in a crucial pre-monsoon heating phase that will have a significant bearing on the fortunes of the southwest monsoon following close on the heels. It is the differential heating of the landmass in summer that actually causes the monsoon. The land heats the air above it, causing the air to rise, and consequently drawing moist air from the oceans to replace the rising air. Meanwhile, the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) maintained its outlook for favourable conditions developing in the Southeast Bay of Bengal for a low-pressure area. First of the pre-monsoon season, the system is forecast to evolve around Sunday (April 23). According to the NCMRWF, the mercury is set to gradually rise over Northwest India (Gujarat and Rajasthan) Thursday onwards. This will take place in tandem with a weak circulation embedded in the seasonal westerly system moving across Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and the Delhi region to further east. Scattered to fairly widespread with isolated heavy rain/thundershowers are likely to occur over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the Northeastern States during the next 48 hours. Isolated thundershowers are likely over East Uttar Pradesh and Orissa. The causative circulation is set to become unimportant within the next 24 hours.
