To develop formulations, promote own brands

Chennai , April 19

Abl Biotechnologies Ltd has floated a pharmaceutical division called Invia Health to develop formulations for the healthcare industry and promote its own brands.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr K.O. Isaac, Chairman and Managing Director, said that the company is using its strong research and development base of over 15 years in the new division to launch a range of products.

These pharma products target three segments - diabetes and related ailments, and cardiovascular and gastrointestinal conditions.

Formulations

Over the last five years Abl Biotechnologies has manufactured over 400 formulations for other pharmaceutical companies such as Nicholas Piramal, Grandix, and Elder.

The formulations are used in therapeutic application in paediatrics, diabetes, age-related disorders, and pregnancy.

Abl developed the products, the marketing propositions, and the brands for over 75 pharma companies. It is now using this experience to promote some of its own brands, Mr Isaac said.

Invia has been floated with a handful of products in hand; it expects to launch a slew of products including anti-virals and anti-fungals and for treating pains and inflammation and diabetes over the next two years.

Abl Biotechnologies will also continue with its existing line of business - manufacturing formulations for pharmaceutical companies, Mr Isaac said.

Expansion

It is also expanding Samudra Biopharma, which it promoted to commercialise marine blue green algae-based products.

Abl developed the technology to culture a marine alga and extract provitamin-A, beta-carotene.

It will invest over Rs 50 crore in expanding the culture facility near Tiruchendur in Tamil Nadu and in fermentation reactors.

Also in the pipeline is a division to commercialise a range of therapeutic nutrition products that will address specialised nutrition requirements.
