`Rs 63 lakh loss in entertainment duty'

The Maharashtra Government lost revenue of over Rs 63.45 lakh due to non/short recovery of entertainment duty from cable operators between 1999 and 2004, according to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. The report, for the year ended March 2005, was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The report said that when records of 342 cable operators in 10 districts were examined, entrainment duty of Rs 49.25 lakh was not paid by the operators, neither were any demands raised between April 1999 and March 2003. Between April 2001 and March 2004 underassessment of Rs 14.20 lakh was also reported from 61 operators.
