Events `Inclusive development is key to sustained growth' Our Bureau
Bangalore , April 19 Inclusive development is key to sustained growth in the country, according to Mr Ravi Venkatesan, Chairman of Microsoft India. He was speaking on the sidelines of a Microsoft seminar on `India is innovation' on Wednesday. While India's economic growth has been phenomenal, there are challenges that need to be addressed - issues around education, creating jobs, helping small and medium businesses to be more competitive and economic growth for those living in rural India, said Mr Venkatesan. "And technology is critical for this to happen. Small enterprises need affordable, out-of-the-box and easy-to-manage solutions. To offer such solutions, first the software ecosystem needs to identify common issues and then innovate to solve societal problems." India was transforming from a low-cost advantage to a hothouse of innovation, he added. He said that IT entrepreneurs, who have excelled in their venture in the last few years and benefited from innovative technology, should come together under one umbrella to address certain basic challenges being faced by the country and work for the betterment of the non-privileged sections of society. He also said that mere e-governance could not help in any way unless there was an attempt to address other problems, including ensuring easy access to technology, accountability in governance, and solving impediments being faced by the agriculture sector.
